Grace. Grit. Growth.

What to Expect
Taking the step to reach out can feel uncertain—especially if you’ve never done counseling before. Most of the men I work with are new to the process, and it’s normal to wonder what you’re walking into. My aim is to keep things straightforward, approachable, and practical. Here’s what you can expect—from your first contact to our ongoing work together.
Initial Contact
Once you reach out, Allen will schedule a brief phone consultation (if you want) to get to know one another, answer any questions you may have, and schedule your first appointment.
The Counseling Environment
We'll meet in a simple room with sofas and comfy chairs. No chaise lounges - and no pressure to tell me everything about your childhood, that's not really how counseling works! Instead, you'll have a comfortable space to talk about what matters most to you.
After the First Session
Most men leave the first session with a mix of relief and hope: relief that it's not as overwhelming as they feared, and hope that we'll actually be able to make progress. From there, we'll build a schedule that works for you. Most guys start on a weekly or bi-weekly schedule which we'll adjust as you make progress toward your goals.
Your First Session
We’ll begin with a short introduction and a bit of paperwork, then move into conversation. I’ll ask about what brings you here, what life looks like for you right now, and what you hope to get out of counseling. You don’t need to have all the answers or share everything at once, we'll build trust as we go.
Space to be You
Some men worry they’ll have to show up a certain way in counseling: more emotional than they are, less angry than they feel, or more talkative than they’re comfortable with. That’s not the case here. You can show up as yourself. Quiet, blunt, unsure, worked up, or whatever else you may be that day. My job isn’t to fix who you are, but to help you gain traction where life feels stuck and clarity where things feel cloudy. We’ll work at a pace that’s real and comfortable for you.
The Basics
Session length: 50-55 minutes

Fee: Generally, $50-$90 per session, we operate on an income-based sliding scale, so many clients end up paying less.

Confidentiality: Confidentiality is a core part of counseling—you don’t have to worry about your boss, your wife, or anyone else hearing about what you share here. This is your space, and what you say stays between us. The only exceptions are rare situations where someone’s safety is at risk. I’ll walk you through exactly what that means in our first session. But the bottom line is this: what you say here stays here.
Counseling isn’t a lecture and it’s not a quick fix.
It’s a partnership.
You bring your honesty and effort. I bring perspective, tools, and a big picture lens. Together, we’ll work toward clearer direction, healthier relationships, and resilience for what life throws your way.
